Urban Farm at Battery Park

NY1 reports on an Urban Farm being grown at Battery Park in Southern Manhattan. Unfortunately I didn't know to look for the turkey that lives there, Curbed shows you a plan of the turkey shaped gardens.
I did get a picture of the bamboo fencing being built out of bamboo from the Big Bambu roof exhibition at the Met.

I'm glad they are repurposing the bamboo installation... it was totally oppressive and harshed my sunset cocktails.

I think it’s a great idea to see a project like this in a city. I am taking an environmental issues class, and food scarcity was an issue. While studying food scarcity, a focus was on genetically modified organisms (GMOs) that are in a lot of food we eat today. While GMOs have been around for a few decades now, without many health effects seen, are they still a safe way to produce more foods? It is nice to see that the students involved with this farm are younger. I believe it is important to educate children at a young age about organic and locally grown food in order for them to make it habit to eat organic, fresh food for the rest of their lives. I didn’t know about organic foods until my later years in high school and by that time, I didn’t care because I was eating GMO foods for my entire life, not knowing a difference. This farm is a good way to educate the children while at the same time, providing fresh and local food to them.
